JSACP Educator Professional Development

We are a diverse team at JSACP, with a broad range of professional & personal experiences, cultural backgrounds, interests & strengths. While we celebrate our diversity, we are brought together by our shared passion of creating safe, engaging & nurturing environments and our understanding of the importance of play-based learning. We also share a commitment to ongoing professional development and understand its importance in growing our practice.

Developmentally speaking, a huge amount of learning occurs during play (birth – 8 years) and we are privileged to work in an environment that supports that understanding of child development. In order to continue to provide exceptional care to children, we recognize the need to continue to learn. This involves workshops, staff meetings, guest speakers and sharing our “expertise” with each other.

Are you aware of the breadth of professional backgrounds our staff have?

On team we have:

  • A Business Graduate
  • A Qualified Teacher
  • An Occupational Therapist
  • Diploma of Early Childhood Graduates
  • Sports coaches
  • Teaching students
  • A Nursing student
  • A Paramedic Student
  • A Teacher Aide
  • A Pizza Chef
  • A Psychology Student

What a wealth of knowledge we have to draw upon in creating safe & engaging learning environments for children.

The JSACP team kicked off 2021 with training on Trauma Informed Care and understanding how to support both children and adults who have had diverse past experiences. As a team, recent professional development topics have included:

  • Child Protection & Mandatory Reporting
  • Understanding Sensory Processing
  • Food Safety
  • Understanding & Supporting Children with Diverse Needs

Popular vote for the next training topic is “Embedding Practices that Support Staff & Student Wellbeing, particularly relevant given what 2020 brought us and taught us.

There’s a bit of misconception about OSHC being a “steppingstone” career, but our team diversity dispels this theory. Of course, every few years we say goodbye to some of our casual staff as they move into other professions, confident that we are sending them out with valuable skills & knowledge learnt from both on the job and through continuing professional development. We’re looking forward to another year of engaging in ongoing learning to grow our practice and continue to provide exceptional care to the children at Jindalee School Age Care Program.
